Kindergarten Lab Science

Kindergarteners have been collecting so much evidence of the animal community surrounding us on campus. This week it was time for Kindergarten scientists to dive deeper into their findings back in their classroom lab. They set up dissection stations to investigate contents of the owl pellets they’ve found on the trails, and they worked in their findings journals to document and classify the types of feathers they’ve collected. Research at PCS often blends field explorations (whether on campus or out in the community) with closer classroom investigations so that students can think more closely and critically about phenomena they observe in the field, ask questions, initiate lines of inquiry and extend their learning. Sometimes it even means establishing a science lab in the Kindergarten classroom!
(Don’t worry — owl pellets were sanitized in an oven before dissection and feathers were washed in warm soapy water.)
