❤️This week, our classrooms have been filled with reflection, creativity, and heart as students from Early Childhood through Grade 8 embarked on a heartfelt exploration of their inner worlds through heart mapping. Inspired by the work of renowned educator Georgia Heard, our young artists began by drawing large hearts and filling them with the people, places, memories, and passions that matter most to them. From our youngest learners sketching their favorite stuffed animals and family members to our middle schoolers mapping out complex emotions and formative experiences, each heart map became a unique portrait of what fills each child with love. The beauty of this exercise lies in how it helps our students recognize and celebrate the richness of their own lives and experiences. Kindergarteners also drew inspiration from Molly Bang’s In My Heart. @georgiaheard1 #heartmaps #valentinestradition #innerlandscape #progressiveeducation #northforklongisland #peconiccommunityschool

Middle School done differently. ✨ As the oldest students in the school, PCS Middle Schoolers don’t get lost in the crowd — they lead it. From guiding younger students to real-world internships to two-year capstone projects they design themselves, our Middle School program is built around who young people are at this stage of life — and who they’re becoming. Want to see it up close? Join us for PCS Middle School Preview Night — an evening of conversations with our faculty, current students, and alumni. Come with your questions. Leave with a full picture of the scope, value and outcomes of the PCS Middle School experience! ⚙🔥Makers gonna make! “Making” is at the heart of the PCS project-based curriculum. We know that working with our hands engages our minds in meaningful and memorable learning. And so, we’re thrilled to offer an after school Maker Lab this trimester and to be hosting our 7th Annual PCS Maker Fair to celebrate the power of “Making” on Saturday, March 28th. Are you a Maker too? Do you have a hobby or passion that you’d love to share? Spaces are available (for free!) to join us a Maker at the Maker Fair. Details in link in bio above.⬆️ Want to know more about our after school programs? They’re open to all children in the community, not just PCS students, and we have a brand new line-up of programs launching in March. Thank you to everyone who stopped by the classrooms this morning for First Friday. It’s always a treat to watch students eagerly pull their families over to see what they’re building, writing, reading, or figuring out. These casual drop-ins give you a window into the real, unpolished moments of learning—the questions being asked, the collaboration happening, the creative thinking taking shape. We could feel the pride radiating from students as they shared their space, their work and all of their music with you. Your presence here matters more than you might realize. When you show up curious and interested in what’s happening in these rooms, you’re telling your child that their ideas, their effort, and their growth are worth paying attention to. That message is so powerful. Thanks for being such wonderful partners in this work. This is truly a community school. #firstfriday #openclassroom #homeschoolconnection #familypartnerships #communityschool #progressiveeducation #northforklongisland #peconiccommunityschool

We’re home! 🎓✨ On Friday our Student Council President had the honor of cutting the ribbon on more than just a building – we’re opening the door to our future. What began as a dream 14 years ago has grown into something we can now call our own, thanks to every single person who believed in a Peconic Community School education and our community. This milestone belongs to all of us: the families who chose us, the educators who poured their hearts into every lesson, the students who showed us what’s possible, and every community member who contributed to making this purchase a reality. You showed up. You gave what you could. You made this happen. Seeing our student leaders step forward to mark this moment reminds us exactly why we fought for this space—for them, and for all the students who will follow. Many thanks to the @northforkchamber for helping us commemorate this milestone achievement. Welcome home, PCS. 🏡💙 #homeatlast #communitybuilt #ribboncutting #14yearsstrong #foreverhome #communitypower #smallschoolbigdreams #progressiveeducation #peconiccommunityschool
