In this Introduction to Herbal Studies and Wildcrafting program, students will be introduced to foundational materia medica with a focus on local native plants and their traditional and practical uses.
Participants will craft herbal-infused kitchen and body oils, create a healing salve from wild pine tree resin, and brew tea over an open fire while learning proper preparation techniques and plant energetics. Creatively, they will make wild pine bristle paintbrushes and grind local stones into natural pigments, connecting art and earth in a meaningful way.
We will spend intentional time walking the trails to practice plant identification, observe habitats and ecosystems, and develop keen observation skills. Emphasis will be placed on gratitude, reciprocity, and reverence for nature — fostering not only knowledge, but a respectful relationship with the land.
Throughout the program, students will build confidence, patience, and stewardship skills while deepening their connection to the natural world and the healing traditions rooted within it.

Throughout the program, students develop fine motor skills, patience, spatial awareness, and creative confidence. Students navigate nature’s obstacle courses, practice using directions with the sun and shadows, participate in scavenger hunts, and build confidence through teamwork challenges. They learn how to safely collect firewood, construct simple shelters, explore basic first aid skills, and understand how preparation and awareness keep us safe outdoors.
Through meaningful hands-on experiences, students not only learn practical survival skills, but also develop resilience, problem-solving abilities, patience, and teamwork. Each activity is thoughtfully adapted for ages 5–9, blending safety, skill-building, imagination, and adventure in a supportive outdoor setting where children feel empowered to try new things, take healthy risks, and grow.
