M’Bemba Bangoura, a master drummer from Guinea, is coming to PCS to offer two workshops on campus Sunday, June 29th. Both geared toward kids and adults of all ages, the workshops will introduce participants to the rhythms and resonance of West African drumming.
Students in the first session, “Feel the Beat: West African Dance and Drumming,” will dance together to live drumming in an uplifting and joyful movement environment. The first session runs from 1 to 3pm.
Students in the second session, “The Heartbeat of West African Drumming,” will learn proper djembe technique as M’Bemba guides students through a traditional piece. The second session runs from 3 to 5pm.
Each session is just $40, with a discount offered for multiple members of a family.
M’Bemba Bangoura is internationally respected for his deep knowledge of West African music, folklore, and customs. A former principal drummer of Guinea’s national dance company, he has spent decades performing and teaching around the world.
